What to Bring

Read and review ALL requirements prior to the class.
Even though a requirement may be identified as one to be done in class, Scouts are still expected to familiarize, review, and prepare for the requirement – BE PREPARED!

Active interaction/participation is expected and mandatory.

Share in your own words – avoid reading your answers.

Pay attention to the action verbs in the requirements.

Bring proof of completion, even partially completed work.

Reviewing the merit badge pamphlet will aid Scouts significantly in preparing for the class and being ready for review by the counselor.

While this requirement will be covered in the class, Scouts not having reviewed the merit badge pamphlet will find it difficult, if not impossible, to complete this requirement without a prior understanding of the methods and procedures to be used.

Scouts must come to the class having a general understanding of the drafting techniques and procedures to be used to complete this requirement.

IN-PERSON CLASS: While this requirement will comprise a good portion of the class, Scouts are encouraged to attempt preparing for this requirement ahead of the class and bringing their work to share.

ONLINE CLASS: The instructor / counselor will be able to give guidance on technique and review of work, however Scouts will need to do this work prior to the class in order for consideration of completion during the class.

Scouts are encouraged to consider finding a free AutoCad application to work on this requirement prior to the class.

IN-PERSON CLASS: Scouts are encouraged to bring their laptop (no tablets), if available, as some counselors may have resources that can be completed on one's laptop for this requirement. The counselor will attempt to complete this requirement as a part of the class, but no guarantee is made or implied.

ONLINE CLASS: The instructor / counselor will be able to give guidance on technique and review of work, however Scouts will need to do this work prior to the class in order for consideration of completion during the class.

Scouts will be able to successfully complete these requirements during the class when they have prepared ahead of time.

Time will be allotted for those Scouts who have prepared to share their work for sign off consideration.

Scouts are encouraged to attempt trying this prior to the class.

This requirement will be completed during the class with guidance from the instructor / counselor.

This requirement will NOT be covered during the class.

HOWEVER, Scouts who have selected one of these options to complete for this requirement, will have an opportunity to share their work during the class for consideration by the counselor for sign off. Please remember that any and all requirements, for any merit badge, are signed off ONLY at the discretion and satisfaction of the merit badge counselor that the requirement has met THEIR interpretation of the requirement.

  1. Your BSA ID# and / or your Merit Badge Blue Card properly filled out and signed off by your Scout Leader.
  2. Notes and questions from reading the Drafting Merit Badge Pamphlet.
  3. Wear your Scout Uniform.
  4. laptop (optional)
  5. Supporting documentation or project work pertinent to this merit badge, which may also include a Merit Badge Workbook for reference with notes.
  6. A positive Scouting focus and attitude.
Merit Badge Workbooks are a tool to aid Scouts with their work preparation. BSA discourages — but does not ban — the use of any merit badge worksheets or workbooks. Merit badge counselors must NEVER require the use of merit badge worksheets or workbooks and may if they choose, refuse to accept them. Scouts shall not be required to use ANY of these to complete a merit badge.
